Does anyone know how involved the Texas Air National Guard was during the Vietnam war? Did we send personnel and aircraft? Any book titles or links would be helpful. thanks Don

With respect to aircraft, I believe only the 136th MAW might have been involved. The 149th TIG (San Antonio at Kelly) and 147th TIG (Houston at Ellington)were flying intercepts within the Air Defense Command.
Seem to remember the 136th being called into active service for awhile. Perhaps others might provide better recollection and history. Best regards, Gary |

The Texas Air National Guard did not have any units nor aircraft directly involved in the war. We did have several pilots from the Houston unit (147th) that did volunteer for Palace Alert. They were called to Active Duty for 30+ days and performed Alert duties primarily in the South East Asia area. The Dallas unit (136th) performed air refueling missions in the European Theater allowing the Active Duty tankers to go to the Asian theater. These missions were rotated among all of the Air National Guard air refueling units.
