I recently discovered the original citation from Gen. John Dahlquist awarding my Grandfather, Flavio Torres, the silver star for something he did during action on 24 August 1944 somewhere in France. I know this date was about 9 days after the 36th participated in the invasion of southern France, but if any one has any additional information on this date, or happens to know anything about this battle, I would appreciate hearing from you! OK, Frank was in E-141 2nd Bn. and I was in L-141 3rd Bn. I do know the 3rd did not get to Crest until the afternoon of 25 Aig. 44. Then we moved out into the Rhone-Drome valley.that night.
On 24 Aig. we were back in the foothills of the Alos. west of Crest. That afternoon our Bn. in reserve and was hit by 88 cannon fire. we lost a Platoon Sgt and several wounded. it was isolated fire. not involved in an action. All I can say is the other 2 bn.s 1st qnd 2nd mocved on up beofore we did. |

My Father was *NOT* presnet and accounted for in August, 1944. I asked him how he feels about missing the complete tour of sight seeing and the warm Nazi welcome prepared by Adolf Hitler. He passes along the comment: "Hell No! - I was lucky to be alive and had the biggest tit job in the history of the World!" By-the-way (BTW) Would you know of John D. Goode Lt. - 141st - 3rd Battalion - K Company??? BTW, please add his to the original roster!!! My father was in Italy, and regrets missing the boat trip to France! Add: John Douglas Goode Serial Number: 01302124 Wounded: Battle of Rapido River Was transferred after a stay in the US Army hospital in Naples to a Supply Division, served out the War in Rome, and was honorably discharge as Captain in 1945/1946. Survivor of 50 years of false guilt and the shame that was the Rapido, and has morned the passing of every soldier in his adored 36th "Fighting Texans" Division. By the History I have read, the K Company was wiped out before or soon after the battle began. What a fcukin' mess. (Pardon my French)  Write to: Mr. John D.
