The 19th Texas Cavalry Regiment was formed by Judge Nat. Burford from volunteers in the Dallas area. Col. Parsons own regiment, the 12th Texas Cavalry, came from around the Hill Country area.
Why then is the 19th Brigade of the Texas State Guard called "Parson's Brigade"? Parsons preferred his own much better trained 12th to the much less war-ready 19th and directly commanded the whole Brigade that bore his name barely half of the time it operated in the Trans-Mississippi region.
