(1) What about the DUI collection? That's a tremendous asset for the Museum and I see no mention of it.
(2) Under the new configuration, security for the exhibit areas will be a nightmare. There's been one vandalism episode and you're lucky there haven't been more. With the docents apparently walled in at a central lobby under the proposed Master Plan, I can't see how they will be able to monitor visitors in any of the galleries unless a bank of security monitors is added at the docent's desk. Or do you plan to have all the walls of glass? If so, what's the point of the walls?
(3) Traffic flow will be a nightmare on days like Muster Day. Now when you get a big crowd into the Museum, they can go into the 36th Gallery, the Lost Battalion, the Air Guard Room, the Great Hall, or the Main Gallery. From the 36th, they can exit out the back or the side doors. Although most people coming through the Main Gallery now come back past the docent's desk, I'm certain that many go out the side door in the back, thus easing congestion. But with dozens of people having to channel through the lobby and one set of exit/entrance doors, you'll have lobby gridlock on busy days.
(4) It's difficult to tell from the map posted on the home page, but I can't figure out where the emergency doors will be. Will there be multiple exits to the Great Hall from the galleries, or will the only exit to the Great Hall be through the lobby. As it appears now, if you had a fire on the outside of the building between artillery park and the building, everyone in the Galleries would have to exit through the lobby area. You can't assume that people unfamiliar with the building will know about/think to look for the far north door. Also, if you do keep the far north door open as an emergency exit, how do you control security?
(5) The request from the January 18th meeting was, as I recall, that all the comments submitted on the plan be available for everyone to see. Since many people who comment may not have access to computers and/or may not know how to use the message boards, they may be mailing in comments and/or dropping them off at the Museum. I trust, therefore, that all of the comments submitted will either be summarized and or posted verbatim somewhere on the home page.
