It is with a heart full of love and sadness that I inform you of the passing away of my beloved Papa. Edward Robert House, 36th Division, 141st Regiment, 2nd Battalion, G Company passed away earlier today at the NYS Veterans Home in Batavia New York. My words are failing me at the moment. I am overwhelmed by his loss, but I want to note the true kindness and loving care that he received by all the staff of Pine Lodge, (Ward D). The staff treated Papa with great dignity and respect at all times and I am truly thankful for their caring and empathy. Papa spent the last two nights of his life peacefully and for that I am extremely grateful. (He had spent every night refighting some aspect of his 30 months in the MTO.) We just can try to imagine what they endure during those terribles days and often, for most of veterans, after during those long nights! We can't forget them! Thank you to them, Homage from France.

He looked down on Texas, at the 36th Infantry Division, and decided they would be first among his champions. He prepared a great Banner to fly in Heaven in their honor. He chose the fabric from Texas and then wove in material from all the remaining states, for he knew as the Texans fell, men from many places would replace them; and he wanted those men to feel, as one, a kindred spirit. He then took his Banner and seasoned it in the heat of Africa, the rains of Italy and the cold of France and Germany. He tempered it in the fire of ongoing battles and when it was finished it was unfurled and flew proudly in Heaven. GOD then took pieces of the Banner and placed them in the heart and soul of every T Patcher so it would be a part of every warrior and though they would be vastly different in all regards they would still be as one bound together by his Banner. Eventually. GODs Banner was all gone and so GOD waited as the conflagration and sacrifices began and small pieces of the Banner began returning and as each T Patcher left this veil of tears he brought his piece of Banner back. Now that magnificent Banner is almost complete and ready to fly. One day soon in the not too distant future, the Banner will be unfurled again and flying in all its splendor over the reunited ranks of the chosen men of the 36th Infantry Division who have rejoined their friends, family and comrades, and GOD will smile. He wrote the prose poem to honor the fallen at the memorial services which occur at the end of each 36th Infantry Division Association get together. Permission granted.

I know you and your husband were very close to him, and I know the pain you are going through at this most difficult time in life. I can only hope the friendships you have made here can help in some little way, as we all become extended family here, as we all know. May our thoughts and prayers lift you when needed. Your father, who like so many veterans, continued to fight the battles every night of his life. He is now at peace, welcomed home by my father and all the other T Patchers that fought together so many years ago. He is surrounded by love of so many men in a final resting place that is peaceful. May he finally be at peace and his mind remember the wonderful things, like, love, children, his wife,and Grandchildren. My Father war in the T-Patcher group. I lost him when I was 12 years old. Never really knew him as Mom and him were divorced. Mom had massive mental issues, so I have nothing but 2 pictures of Dad. I envy you for having your beloved Father In Law, I would Give anything to have 15 minutes just to talk to my Dad. I wonder if he would be proud of me? Relish your time you had with a true hero. Mourn him, but relish the time you had him. These men were one of a kind, I went to a convention several years ago, and learned my Father was a good Man and mot of all a Good Soldier. God Bless all our Military, and may He keep them safe. But Men die in war, and like my Dad some die because of War. May we all pray for our fallen heroes, such as your "Papa". May we all pray for peace. God Bless You and your Family, May He lighten your Grief in this Time Of Need, and Bestow His Blessings Upon You And Yours. Our fathers endured so many things during the war to make our freedom possible and we will never forget it. I feel it is important that our kids today understand what our parents went through during those times and the weather conditions they had to endure . I am proud of the T-Patchers and very thankfull for their service to our country both past and present. I know you are too.
