Prestigious summer historic research progams are available for interested motivated high school students. One program is at the United States Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, PA. The two students who study there will have first hand experience working with historical documents. The student who did this last year was instrumental in making a discovery in the memorabilia of Civil War General Luther P. Bradley.

Another program is with Dr. Matthew Pinsker at Dickinson College. He is doing extensive research on the Underground Railroad, the escape route of slaves to the north prior to 1865. The student selected to work here will do research directly with Dr. Pinsker.

I am Mary Herrera and Program Coordinator with the Institute for Educational Advancement. I administer a 3 week residential program for high school students. The above are two of our opportunities.

Please encourage any high school students who might be interested to contact me at 626.403.8900 or mherrera@educationaladvancement.org. Applications and more information are available at our website under the Apprenticeship Program (www.educationaladvancement.org).
