In defense of those who answered the call of the newly established Republic of Mexico and in particular the free Federalist State of Coahuila y Tejas:

"All Foreigners, who...in virtue of the general law of 1824...which guarantees the security of their persons and property in the territory of the Mexican Nation, wish to remove to any of the settlements of the state of Coahuila y Tejas are at liberty to do so; and the said State invites and calls them."

They along with their fellow colonists including freedom loving native born Hispanics, who contributed to the separation of Mexico from European Spanish colonialism, became loyal and industrious citizens of the United States of Mexico in 1828-1830 and set about to build a second economically viable democratic Republic in the Americas.

Vice-regal militaristic dictatorship fueled by xenophobia, blind nationalism and coalition of church and state, subverted all principles on which the United States of Mexico was initially established and took control of their adopted country and threw out their Constitution. Together with their libertarian and freedom-loving Federalist brethren throughout the Republic of Mexico, they fought for restoration and reformation of the Federalist Mexican Constitution of 1824 under which they immigrated.

After the betrayal which threatened their property, self-determination and lives, they were forced to fight for the independence of Texas from a potentially disastrously weak position. First as did freedom loving elements in other mostly northern Mexican states, they struggled for an independent state within a Federation of Mexican States. When that failed due to constant attack by an organized militaristic Centralist Mexican dictatorship, they were forced to fight for an independent Republic. Under constant attack by the Centralist Mexican government, they were forced to rely upon the United States of the North for survival and joined that powerful confederation by treaty in 1846.

Look at the consequences today of this visionary colonization policy established by visionary leaders of the original Confederation of Mexican Federalist States and the consequences of its subversion by the return to vice-regal political and militaristic forces of empire rather than Federalist Democracy.

Mexican Statesman Porfirio Diaz in approaching the 20th century in 1891:

If Morelos had lived to the year 1821, Iturbide would not have been able to take control of the national insurrection; and the nation would not have passed through a half century of shameful and bloody revolution which caused it to lose half of its territory. Today it would be the powerful republic which we would have expected from seventy years of development initiated by the courage, the abnegation, prudence, and political skill, of which that extraordinary man was the model.

One of the few visionary Mexican Statesman (Jos Manuel Mier y Tern), who in addition to Juan Almonte, realized the future potential of Texas as a model for the development of the Mexican Republic, saw the future consequences of the impending disaster. That prophetic feeling of hopelessness caused him to cry in his last letter before taking his own life the next day:

"....I am an unhappy man, and unhappy people should not live on earth......En qu parar Texas?.....En qu parar Texas? En lo que Dios quiera."

The failure of all of Mexico to capitalize on the principles on which it was first founded including the visionary colonial policy set in motion of which Texas was the shining successful example are the major factors that crippled the Mexican people who are suffering the consequences of that history today.

These were basically principles set by precedent and example earlier in the struggles of the fledgling US of the North, universal ideas and principles espoused by all mankind in history, that visionary peninsulares and criollos adopted.

The subversion of those principles by vice-regal military dictatorship and the political system it supported resulted in the continuous crippling revolution in Mexico that caused the loss of Texas, half of its territory and stunted its development into a great American Republic that it deserves.
       
No amount of justification of the legality of isolated military actions by Texas Republicans, Americans and Mexicans on either side can reverse the above facts based on outcome.

The sheer seemingly uncontrollable number of individuals born south of the Rio Grande River seeking to leave the land of their birth (and for that matter many countries around the world) to participate in the economic bounty, peace and security successfully established by original Mexican Colonial policy in Texas that was solidified and protected with the help of the US of the North speaks volumes for the vision and success of those ideas and the failure of attempts on subversion of them.

In contrast, this and the paucity of descendants of citizens of Texas and the US of the North whether born on the soil or not, independent of cultural and racial background, to immigrate and make their lives south of the Rio Grande in territories still suffering from the consequences of subversion of those early principles on which the Mexican Republic was established firmly denounces the efficacy and even legality of military policies of continuing subsequent Mexican Centralist dictatorships that dominated and crippled 19th century Mexico.
